Self-Care Gems for a Serene Holiday Season

The holidays are knocking on our doors, and while it's all tinsel and gingerbread for some, it's not always merry and bright. This season can be a bit of a mixed bag – joys and challenges all bundled up together.

We've learned that taking care of yourself makes all the difference. It's not just about getting through the holidays; when we prioritize self-care we can truly enjoy them. So, here are a few things to keep in mind:

  • Feel All the Feels: First things first – all of your emotions are valid. Rather than trying to bury them and fake a smile, we encourage you to feel the feelings from joy to grief, connection to loneliness. You're having a normal human experience, which means there are a lot of feelings.

  • Keep Expectations Real: You don't need to turn your home into a winter wonderland straight out of a Hallmark movie. Keep it real and set expectations that don't have you stressed about being the perfect host or gift-giver. Simple joys beat elaborate decorations any day.

  • Connect with a Good Friend: If the holiday cheer feels a bit overwhelming, reach out. Isolation can seem like the easier solution, but sometimes calling a friend or having a cozy video chat can make a world of a difference. And hey, if you ever feel alone, we're here for you.

  • Boundaries for the Win: In the season of giving, remember it's okay to give yourself the gift of boundaries. It's perfectly acceptable to say no or take a rain check. Your peace of mind is the most precious gift you can give yourself.

  • Tender Loving Self-Care: Treat yourself like the precious soul you are. A warm bath, a good book, or even just a quiet moment to breathe – make self-love a holiday tradition. You are worthy of this time.

  • Gratitude Attitude: Keep a little gratitude journal and jot down the small joys. It's a wonderful way to shift your focus and remind yourself of the goodness around you.
