Where the Sea Meets the Soul

A Scottish Coastal Retreat at Dunskey Estate
Portpatrick, Galloway Coast, Scotland · October 6-11, 2027 · Six days, five nights

Take a minute to picture:

You're standing at the edge of a Scottish coastal cliff. The sea is moody. Behind you, a castle. Ahead of you, the whole wide Atlantic. The mist is rolling in unhurried and somewhere in the distance, a lighthouse is beginning to glow.

You are exactly where you are supposed to be. And is that bagpipes you hear? Yes. It's bagpipes. Of course it's bagpipes.

You are wearing something magnificent. Tonight you will dance.

This is not a fantasy. This is your September retreat in Scotland.

Yep, we booked a castle. A proper Edwardian castle on the coast of Scotland with 2,000 acres, lavish bedrooms, a lighthouse at the edge of the estate, cliffs that drop to the Atlantic, and a chef with three AA Rosettes who has very strong opinions about dinner.

And then we built a retreat around it so we can all play together!

We genuinely, deeply, without apology believe that this kind of joy is exactly what we all need right now. That arriving somewhere magnificent and letting yourself be completely, utterly taken care of is indulgent, and you are worthy of this kind of care. That dressing for dinner in a castle and meaning it, loosing an arrow as you wildly miss the bullseye, dancing a ceilidh until your legs give out are things that change you. They crack something open. They remind your body what it feels like to be fully, joyfully, unapologetically alive.

That is the work. That has always been the work.

And this September, we're doing it in Scotland. In a castle. By the sea.

You have full permission to show up, dress up, laugh loudly, feel deeply, and fling yourself at this one magnificent life with everything you've got.

The Experience

Six days. Five nights, four of them in a castle! Mornings in practice. Days in wonder. Joy is the method. A castle, and our community, is the container.

The Magic

Falconry and archery on the castle grounds. An estate that runs to the sea. A picnic in the September light. Forest bathing in ancient woodland. A walk to the lighthouse at the edge of everything.

And before the dinner, the Magic Parlour. Headdresses. Costumes. An entire room dedicated to the question of how magnificent you are prepared to be tonight. The answer, we have found, is always: more than expected.

Then the dinner. The grand hall. A chef who has been thinking about this meal all week. After dinner, the experiences will vary. But you can count on at least one night where we dance the ceilidh in full dress, with live music, spinning until you're breathless and completely, magnificently alive.

The Practice

Each morning at the castle, before it fully wakes, we gather, for movement, pranayama, and the somatic practices that create space for everything else to land. There is something particular about practicing here: coastal air, the sound of the sea somewhere close, stone walls that have held centuries of human life. It makes the interior work feel less effortful. Like the castle itself is doing some of the holding.

Woven through the five days are intimate workshops, dedicated sessions to explore deeper, to integrate, to work with what is actually moving through you. You will leave with something real. Something you can feel in your body, not just understand in your mind. The joy and the depth are not in competition here. They are the same thing.

The Food

As always, you know we take our food and meals seriously. So does our 3AA Rosette chef, the Scottish equivalent of Michelin, who has very strong opinions about what should land on your plate.

Farm to table. Seasonal. Deeply Galloway. Daily full breakfast to set you up. A proper picnic lunch on the estate. Canapes each evening while you change for dinner. And dinner itself: each night different, each night extraordinary, each one a meal you will actually remember. And afternoon tea the way it should be: properly, fully, in a castle.

Everything is included. You arrive, you put your wallet away, and you eat magnificently the whole time.

The Land

The Galloway coast operates at a scale that rearranges your sense of proportion, in the best possible way. Cliff walks above the Atlantic where the wind has opinions and the view goes on forever. Three beaches where dolphins and seals have been spotted from the shore. Two lochs nestled into rhododendron banks, dark and still and impossibly beautiful. A walled garden, a Victorian glasshouse, a Hampton Court maze, ancient woodland, two waterfalls. And at the far edge of the estate, the lighthouse, standing where Scotland runs out and the sea begins.

This is the land that makes you understand why people write poetry. Standing in it, breathing it, walking it, something settles. Something you didn't even know you were carrying puts itself down, quietly, on the Galloway earth, and stays there when you leave.

If Outlander Had a Wellness Retreat,
It Would Look Like This

Sure, we’re not in the highlands, but the Galloway Coast is the Scotland of your imagination made real: cliff edges above a moody Atlantic, ancient woodland, castle turrets, mist that arrives without asking. We can't promise you'll time-travel. We can promise that standing at the edge of that lighthouse in the October light, something in you will feel like it just did.

Whether you've watched every episode or simply felt the pull of Celtic coastline calling your name, this landscape does something to people. It returns them to a version of themselves that is wilder, freer, and significantly less worried about their inbox.

That's the retreat. That's always been the retreat.

Where we’re Staying

EDINBURGH: NIGHT ONE

Scotland meets you gently here. One night in the city before the adventure begins. Let the journey fall away, wander without agenda, find somewhere warm to eat. Let the week ahead shimmer at the edges without quite arriving yet. This is the exhale before the inhale.

Dunsky Estate: NIGHTS TWO THROUGH FIVE

Tucked into the southwestern coast of Scotland where the Galloway countryside rolls down to the Atlantic and the air carries salt and something older than memory sits Dunskey Estate.

You turn down a private drive. The estate opens up around you with 2,000 acres of Galloway coastline, ancient woodland, walled gardens, and sea. The castle appears: Edwardian, grand, completely and utterly itself.

You step out of the car.

And something in you, something that has been waiting a very long time for exactly this, exhales completely.

This is yours. Exclusively. For four nights.

Extravagant bedrooms, each with its own particular magic: canopy beds, claw-footed tubs, original baronial architecture, fireplaces, views across grounds that roll all the way to the water. Plush mattresses with feather toppers. Turkish cotton robes. Linens from The White Company. The kind of room that makes you stand in the doorway for a moment, just taking it in, before you walk through.

A full team is available 24 hours, on call, for everything, which means the only thing you need to think about is how present you want to be.

The Rooms

Every room at Dunskey tells its own story. All rooms include daily housekeeping, nightly turndown service, plush mattresses with feather toppers, Turkish cotton robes, and White Company amenities. You have been waiting for permission. You have been waiting long enough. This is it.

A NOTE FROM US

We have been dreaming of Scotland for a long time now. Of the Celtic cliffs above the Atlantic, the mist rolling in unhurried, the feeling of land. We wanted to create the dreamiest possible version of that: the most alive, most joyful, most magnificent experience this coastline could hold. And then we found Dunskey and we knew we had found our place.

We have been dreaming of a retreat that proves, once and for all, that joy is the practice. That you don't have to choose between going deep and having the time of your life. That the most transformational thing you can do is sometimes arrive somewhere magnificent, let yourself be completely taken care of, and give yourself full permission to be as alive and as joyful and as present as you are capable of being.

We have spent ten years building Art of Self Worth around that belief. This September, we get to live it in a castle by the sea.

We cannot wait to be there with you.

With love and a touch of tartan,

Sarah Anne & Sarah Kelly

Frequently Asked Questions

  • This is not a tour. It is not a spa weekend. It is not a group trip where you happen to do yoga one morning. Every element of this retreat from the falconry to the ceilidh to the Magic Parlour to the cliff walks to the candlelit dinners have been chosen deliberately, because we believe that joy is itself a transformational practice. Woven through all of it are somatic morning sessions, intimate workshops, and guided integration time led by Sarah Anne Wilkinson and Sarah Kelly Reid, who between them bring over 30 years of experience holding space for exactly this kind of change. You will leave having had the time of your life. You will also leave different. Those two things are not in conflict here. They are, in fact, the whole point.

  • Not at all! Many of our guests arrive solo and leave with friendships they keep for years. This retreat is all-gender and designed so that whether you come alone, with a partner, with your best friend, or with your chosen family, you will feel at home from the first evening. The castle does something to people. It drops the small talk faster than anywhere we've ever been. By night two, you will not feel like strangers.

  • Perfectly. The people who come to this retreat are not all seasoned retreat-goers with matching linen sets and a meditation streak (although we love linen and meditation!). They are people who felt something when they read this page and decided to trust it. No yoga experience required. No spiritual background necessary. No particular level of togetherness expected. Come exactly as you are: that is genuinely, specifically who this was made for.

  • Yes, and we mean it when we say flexible! We offer interest-free payment plans tailored to what actually works for your life, whether that's 3 months or 12. No hidden fees, no interest, no one-size-fits-all structure. Put down a $500 deposit to hold your room today, and we'll work out the rest together. Reach out to us at hello@artofselfworth.com and we'll sort it.

  • Honestly? Spectacular in the way that only slightly dramatic weather can produce. October on the Galloway Coast means golden light, Atlantic wind, the occasional moody sky, and a landscape that feels like it was designed for exactly this kind of week. The castle is fully heated and extraordinarily cozy, afternoon tea by the fire is a very real part of your day, and the cliff walks in that October air are the kind of thing people describe for years afterward. Pack layers. Embrace the mist. It is, we promise, part of the magic.

  • We will send details in the welcome guide, but here’s a taste: comfortable, warm layers for the Galloway coast in October. It will be moody and beautiful and the wind will have opinions. Good walking shoes for cliff paths and estate exploration. Yoga clothes for morning practice. And of course, something magnificent for the grand dinner, the Magic Parlour has headdresses and costumes to play with, but bring whatever makes you feel like the most alive version of yourself, because you will want it.
