What is embodiment?

Embodiment and somatic healing are becoming more mainstream, but what do they actually mean?

Instead of telling you right away, come with us on an experiment. Ready?

  1. Notice right now what you're feeling physically. How is your body situated? What emotions do you feel?

  2. Roll your shoulders back.

  3. Take a deep breath filling your body with oxygen, inhaling deeply and exhale out your mouth with a sigh.

  4. Maybe do a gentle head role from from one shoulder to the other and back.

  5. Gently circle your wrists.

  6. Roll your shoulders back again as you take one more deep breath.

How do you feel now? Physically and emotionally? Did you notice a shift?

Embodiment is simply any tool that brings you back into your body. Too often we numb or ignore our bodies to power through our day. When you connect and reconnect with your body, remarkable things happen. We're more present to life, feelings, messages and community. Embodiment practices can include, but are not limited to, meditation, yoga, EFT tapping, running, dancing and singing.

Somatic healing takes the practice of embodiment one step further to use embodiment practices to heal old wounds that exist from trauma, or just life. Somatic healing techniques can also rewire your neuropathways to overcome limiting beliefs. It's connecting the emotional and physical for healing. Pretty cool, right?

Let's do another experiment!

  1. Take another deep breath.

  2. Take two or three fingers on both hands and find your collar bones.

  3. Start tapping back and forth: right, left, right, left.

  4. Keep tapping and say three affirmations: I am strong, I am beautiful. I've got this! Repeat three times.

How do you feel now? Physically? Emotionally? Did you notice any shift?

Embodiment practices and somatic healing are powerful tools to help you be the truest version of yourself and live from a place of peace and power.
